I Teach

This blog is a place for me to debrief myself after my classes. It will serve both as a place for venting and as an archive for what worked and didn't work for me. I welcome outsider comments about teaching techniques or anything else.

The Money Shot

Okay, grades were due for me today and here's how the class broke down:

A-5 (I even had one A+) (The rest were just A's "without the minus," Jess)
B-11
C-7
D-1
F-2

Well, I never said the class was going to be easy...

Yup, that's right, my first semester teaching and I failed two students. Actually, we all know that's not true. They failed themselves, me, and their classmates. As a nice little aside, one of the F's came from the student who missed 16 sessions but "enjoyed the course very much." Yeah, he got a 7.5. Seriously, that was his grade in the class. 7.5. Sometimes I wish we gave number grades instead of letters.

So this semester is finally, officially over. There will be several more posts, though. In the coming days look for some thoughts about how I thought the course worked/didn't work substantively, as well as for the "highlights" from my student's writings this semester. Also, when I get the evals (should be sometime next week), I'll post those results here along with the mid-term evals (if I can find them).

The advice, thoughts, and comments from everyone here has been great. Keep it coming if you have more. If not, just know that you all helped me to do this the best I could, and for that I thank you.

I don't really have a comment yet for this except that I'm glad that your students earned those A's...without the minus!
